  The average North Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. The put-in is not too far from Roanoke Rapids, as you can see on the road map further down. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. There are some good hotels near
    the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the North Carolina Route 48 to 1/2 mile downstream of US 301 section is one of them.
The nature scenery of Northampton County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.

Lots of people from Garysburg come to Roanoke River. Summer brings
 
highs in the 80's to Roanoke River, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Roanoke River dip into the 20's. Roanoke River is a wet place that gets a good deal of rain. August is the month that gets the most rain while April is regularly the driest month.
