Have been paddling rocky river all my life at flood stage and low flood stage. It's dangerous. Please understand what I am saying. Says Malcolm Kennedy
I paddled the thread trail ''blueway'' near Midland, from the Pharr Family Preserve to the Riverbend Farm. This is a 4.5 mile section of easy water, and took about an hour to paddle at this flow. The put in and take out are very well maintained, with steps to the water, but know that |
there is a 1/4 mike walk from the parking lot to the river at the put in. The Rocky River gage above Irish Buffalo creek showed about 500 cfm which is an excellent level to paddle, no real rapids, nor anything very difficult
| to navigate, but any rock gardens/sandbars had plenty of water over them to avoid scraping. There were several fallen trees forming strainers, but none extended all the way across the channel and were easy to avoid at this flow. This stretch has no development whatsoever on it, and has a nice secluded feel. Says Harrison Carter
HWY 601 bridge to Renee Ford Road in Stanfield is a good lazy half day trip. There are some rapids, nice views. | |
|
However it is shallow in places if the river is low. I have some put in and out points should anyone be interested as I live on this part of the river. You may contact me at shotguntinanc@aol.com for info or trip guide Says

I want to Paddle the Rocky River with my Family. I cannot find anyone who has made the trip or know anything about the river. Can anyone help? Says Jim McNeill
1. There are plenty of sections of
the Rocky River you have left out, Hwy. 24/27 bridge to Hwy 200 bridge. 2. Hwy 200 to Hwy 138 over long creek, down to the Pee Dee river. almost triple the amount miles. would be happy to lead any one down this beautiful river for one hour or one week. Says Adam Henderson
