North Carolina whitewater, Rocky Broad River Henderson Rutherford county, Along Route 64/74 to Lake Lure at Chimney Rock section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V     3.5 miles   The Rocky Broad River- Class IV-V????  Are you kidding?  Not since I moved here in '85 has there even been much water there!  You can barely even float a boat on it unless it has rained for several days!  My 7yo daughter tubed it last year (at least when she wasn't bumping over the shallow rocks).  Even this year when we've tons on rain, a kayaker would have trouble picking a deep enough line through the shoals. Says Jeff Stilber     The nature scenery of North Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a short drive from Asheville, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. You can pitch a tent or park   your RV at a nearby campground. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section of Rocky Broad River in North Carolina is 3.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience.
