North Carolina whitewater, South Yadkin River Davie Rowan county, Route 1143 to US Route 6O1 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     11.7 miles   The put-in at Route 1143 was closed when we showed up and looked like it had been for quite some time. Says Kelly Dockery The Route 1143 to US Route 6O1 section of South Yadkin River is 11.7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II     section. The wonderful Davie/Rowan County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in is not too far from Salisbury, as you can see on the road map further down. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations   in advance you're all set. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: While you're here at South Yadkin River you will meet lots of people from nearby Cooleemee. Summertime at South Yadkin River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 40's while South Yadkin River night low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's.
