  The Downtown Rocky Mount section of Tar River in Nash County is 1 miles long and is a class I(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're coming from Rocky Mount it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Nash County scenery and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Getting some good exercise
    and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is a very short section so you'd
better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other places. The Downtown Rocky Mount section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. There's camping available near Tar River.

It's always glorious to stop at Little Falls, and there are plenty of people from Rocky Mount here.
 
A journey to Little Falls will fill your soul with magnificent feelings. High temperatures at Tar River through the warmest time of the year are in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Tar River drop into the 20's. Tar River sees pretty high levels of precipitation. Of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and April on the other hand is the driest.
