The nature scenery of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Toxaway River - Upper are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're coming from Brevard it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the     page. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Above   Lake Toxaway section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: A short tour to Dismal Falls is always worthwhile; Toxaway River - Upper is in close proximity to Cold Mountain Gap which is beyond doubt worth checking out. All year is a glorious time in the Blue Ridge Mountains if you like the outdoors. If you're stopping by Toxaway River - Upper from Lake Toxaway, you won't be the only one; do take a hike on the Foothills Trail.
