CLASS V+ 1.5 miles

The statement couldn't be further from the truth. Professional paddlers move to NC (Asheville in particular) to paddle world-famous class V runs that are famous for their low-volume challenges. Says Justin
This place is suicide for anyone in a boat. It's extraordinarily dangerous for someone even hiking. It is dewatered and would probably only run when the flood gates were open during a very large storm. Full of potholes, sieves, and |
strainers. Don't believe me, simply look for pictures inside Bonas Defeat (http:// www.pbase.com / waterfallrich/bonas_defeat_gorge) Says JS
This section of Tuckasegee River - East Fork in Jackson County is 1.5 miles
| long and has been rated as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these | |
|
hotels fill up quick. The put-in location is a short drive from Brevard. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are campgrounds quite near
the river where you can camp. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The nature scenery of Jackson County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming
here. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too.
