Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The Route 2016 to North Carolina Route 217 stretch of Upper Little River is 8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. Since you're on this     site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other good places for that around here. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. If you're coming from Dunn it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons   to come. The campgrounds here at Upper Little River are pretty good. Briefly about the general area: Why not take a refreshing hike along the Group Camp Trail, and Upper Little River is not far at all from Erwin. Upper Little River is right by the Little Creek Loop Trail. Upper Little River is a good spot of normal precipitation. August is the wettest month with most rain, and April on the other hand is the driest. Summertime highs at Upper Little River commonly tend to be in the 80's while nighttime lows are typically in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Upper Little River temperatures plunge to the 20's.
