If you're coming from Sevierville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Above Nantahala Cascades stretch of Whiteoak Creek in North Carolina is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Macon County scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. |
Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
| This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. in nature will make you glad you came. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience.
Briefly about the general area: The Wesser Creek Trail offers hiking at its best, and the fine
people of Topton like to hang out nearby. Now, you may assume that's a lot but there's even more amusing things to do here in the Great Smoky Mountains. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Thorn Mountain Trail, and
Poplar Cove is another great place to check out close by. Lots of fun awaits you along this river. Don't leave Whiteoak Creek without visiting Nantahala National Forest.
