The scenic beauty of Avery/Caldwell County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than     elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Boone, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but   you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Briefly about the general area: The slopes of Hawksnest are so inviting nobody can resist, and going for a hike along the Daniel Boone Scout Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors enjoyable stuff the Blue Ridge Mountains has to offer. Here at Wilson Creek there are plenty of people from Collettsville, and hiking along the Yancey Ridge Trail is good fun. This river has so much to offer.
