The wonderful Wilkes County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Yadkin River make the trip here worthwhile. The put-in is not too far from North Wilkesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night,     but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The Route 1178 below West Kerr Scott Dam to Route 2327 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.   Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. Briefly about the general area: If you're visiting Yadkin River from Boomer, you won't be the only one, and wonderful hiking is available along the Dogwood Trail. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountains. Summer at Yadkin River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Yadkin River.
