The SR 1242 to US 129 stretch of Yellow Creek in North Carolina is 1.1 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Yellow Creek are pretty good. This river     system has a few good paddling sections and the SR 1242 to US 129 section is one of them. The scenic beauty of Graham County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. This section is very short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The wild scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains   is great. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. Briefly about the general area: The Hannah Mountain Trail offers hiking at its best, and you're sure to stumble upon some fine people from Fontana Dam here. All the outdoors exciting things in the Great Smoky Mountains will keep you coming back again and again. Kirkland Gap is a good spot to look at, and there's great hiking along the Long Hungry Ridge Trail.
