Says Henry Dorfman Having paddled the 70 miles of the Great Miami, the WW is great for beginners or rec paddlers wanting to have a little excitement added to their trip.  Water Quality is good, in fact it can be better then the Little Miami during low water.  Best time to hit the GM is when it is running between 2500cfs     and 3800cfs (Hamilton USGS gage if your looking for some WW.  There isn't too many places in the summer in the Midwest you can find good water and waves, but the Great Miami still flows well in August. Says Tim Richmond The starting location is a short drive from Cincinnati-Middletown, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of Hamilton County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for   more. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Ohio are easier than the national norm, so don't forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. There's camping available near Great Miami River. The 50 Hole stretch is the only paddling stretch along Great Miami River. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a very short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that.
