Ohio whitewater, Maumee River

Grand Rapids section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

The Maumee is acually a pretty good river to kayak. From the Grand Rapids Dam down to the city of Maumee is a pretty good stretch of river. Depending on river flow it could be a little intense. There are a number of rapids that you could go through or around depending on your confidence. There are also places to camp along the river. Says Paul

How long is the Maumee river and what lake does it pass through Says Jamesa Mackey

The wonderful Ohio scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Ohio is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that rivers in this state are
not as hard as elsewhere. The put-in location is a short drive from Toledo, as you can see on the road map further down. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other spots for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby
campground. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Grand Rapids section is one of them. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over.

Briefly about the general area:
While you're here at Maumee River you will meet lots of people from close by Grand Rapids. Mary Jane Thurston State Park is a great place to go if you're at Maumee River. The annual rain here at Maumee River is about average. The month of June is the wettest with most of the rain; January on the other hand is the driest.
