The Upper stretch of Vermilion River in Huron County is 9 miles long and it is classified as a class I(II) section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Huron County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Upper section is just one of many. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away |
from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're coming from Sandusky it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map

If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around here. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come.

month that gets the most rain; the driest of the months is February. For the duration of the summer months at Vermilion River temperatures are mostly in the 80's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 60's.
