Ohio whitewater, Vermilion River Erie county, Middle section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I(II)     8 miles   The Middle stretch of Vermilion River is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I(II) section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Sandusky, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other spots for that. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will     make you glad you came. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Ohio are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wonderful Ohio scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Vermilion River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. For all   you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: A day at Nickel Plate Beach close to Vermilion River is time well spent; there are plenty of folks from Birmingham here. Beaches are perfect; and Main Street Beach near Vermilion River is no exception; Findley State Park is a delightful place to stop by on a gorgeous day. This is such a great river. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Vermilion River. Summer night lows descend down to the 60's. During the winter this place gets highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Vermilion River are in the 10's.
