The scenic beauty of Oklahoma and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not     very demanding. This is an extremely short section so no need to bring snacks. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. Illinois River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Playspot at Echota stretch is the only one. The wild scenery of the Ozarks is great. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. If you're coming from Tahlequah it's   not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: A fine place in the neighborhood of Illinois River is River Bend Hollow, and since you're here you will meet lots of folks from nearby Tahlequah. This spot, the Ozarks, has so much outdoors entertaining things. Point of the Pines is an exciting thing to distinguish since you're here at Illinois River. Illinois River gets a great deal of water. For the period of the month of June you get the most rain around here; the driest month is January. At Illinois River throughout the warmest time of the year highs are in the 90's.
