We are beginners and I have 3 children ranging 7, 10 and 14. Could we safely do white river rafting at a class 2+? Says Michelle B.
The scenic beauty of McCurtain County and the water flowing gracefully down Mountain Fork are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Broken Bow dam to Highway 70 section of Mountain Fork is 3.2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II+ section of whitewater. If you're |
a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The beautiful Ouachita Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons
| to come. The Broken Bow dam to Highway 70 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Texarkana, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and | |

some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oklahoma tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that rivers in this state
are not as hard as elsewhere. This section is quite short so better bring some good walking shoes.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Mountain Fork without first paying a visit to Presbyterian Falls.
On a wonderful day at Mountain Fork you can take a hike along the Beaver Lodge Nature Trail, and you're sure to come across some wonderful folks from Eagletown here.
