This stretch of Washita River in Oklahoma is 9 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Ardmore, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state     is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whitewater paddling here in the Arbuckle Mountains is a great experience. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other places for that. Getting   your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. Briefly about the general area: There are plenty of folks from Dougherty here at Washita River; don't leave Washita River without first going for a hike along the Cliffside Trail. You truly have to have a thing about the Arbuckle Mountains. Cedar Falls is a perfect local attraction, and Chickasaw National Recreation Area is a fine local destination. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. All through the months of summer at Washita River temperatures are commonly in the 90's.
