Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This section of Big Butte Creek in Jackson County is 9.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or     kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you're coming from Medford it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Butte Falls to Netherlands Road section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This stretch is mid length,   suitable for an afternoon trip. The Southern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. Briefly about the general area: A perfect site like Casey State Park in the neighborhood of Big Butte Creek is too wonderful to leave out, and the Buck Point Trail offers hiking at its best. So many amusing things in the Southern Cascade Range, just mind-boggling. A visit to Big Butte Creek wouldn’t be complete without a visit to close by Joseph H. Stewart State Park, and Big Butte Creek is right by the Alco Trail. This river is a great place to visit. Lots of folks from Butte Falls come to Big Butte Creek.
