The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Salem, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might     end up sleeping in your car. This stretch of Butte Creek in Clackamas/ Marion County is 7.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled   as well. Briefly about the general area: There are plenty of people from Scotts Mills here at Butte Creek; places like North Santiam State Park are good to explore. Silver Falls State Park is a great place to stretch your legs a bit. From a rainfall point of view Butte Creek is a quite normal place. December is the month that gets the most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Throughout the warmest time of the year highs here at Butte Creek get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Butte Creek dipping down into the 30's through winter nights.
