Oregon whitewater, Champion Creek

Lane county, Gorge 1 mile above Brice Creek to Brice Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     1.1 miles
The scenic beauty of Lane County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Oregon you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. If you're coming from Eugene-Springfield it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not
familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There
are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Cascade Range is a great experience. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The Gorge 1 mile above Brice Creek to Brice Creek stretch of Champion Creek in Oregon is 1.1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. This section
is very short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here.

Briefly about the general area:
There is a great hiking trail close to Champion Creek called the Mayflower Trail; do put some time aside to spend at Smith Falls if you're here at Champion Creek. All the outdoors cool stuff in the Central Cascade Range will keep you coming back persistently. On a wonderful day at Champion Creek you can take a hike along the Steamboat Trail; if you're hooked on cool geologic highlights try Kitten Rock.
