CLASS III-IV     8 miles
  The starting point is not too far from Hood River, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch of Clackamas River in Oregon is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations
    in advance you're all set. The beauty of the Central Cascade Range is a great plus for this river. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state
is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The natural beauty of Oregon and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled  
as well. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't leave Clackamas River without first going for a hike along the Cottonwood Meadows Trail. A short tour to Austin Hot Springs is always worthwhile, and there are magnificent locations to discover along the Rhododendron Ridge Trail. This is such a fun river. Through the long summer days, highs regularly are in the 70's at Clackamas River. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Clackamas River temperatures dip to the 30's.
