CLASS I-II 16 miles
|
| |
The Pringle Falls to Big River Campground stretch of Deschutes River is 16 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The scenic beauty of Oregon and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have |
people coming here. The beauty of the Central Cascade Range is a great plus for this river. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Bend, if you're not familiar with
| the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is not the only | |
|
paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too.
Briefly about the general area: Good hiking is available along the Swampy Lakes Trail; Deschutes River is not far at all from La Pine. These mountains
rock, just explore all the amusing stuff to do in the Central Cascade Range. The snow is great at Mt. Bachelor, and a perfect site like LaPine State Recreation Area is too tremendous to leave out. Coming to this river is
always a good idea. Fall River Falls is a wonderful spot to pop by while you're at Deschutes River. There's good hiking along the Edison Ice Cave and Lava Trail.
