This stretch of Deschutes River in Oregon is 18 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-V section. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise     and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Big River Campground to Benham Falls stretch is just one of them. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. The starting point is not too far from Bend, as you can see on the road map further down. The wild scenery of the Central Cascade Range is great. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget   that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Briefly about the general area: Hiking is a popular thing to do around Deschutes River; Swampy Lakes Trail is a great local trail. Going to LaPine State Recreation Area near Deschutes River is a pleasant thing to do; Deschutes River is a place with many visitors from Bend. This river is so good. Throughout the warm months at Deschutes River temperatures are commonly in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 40's. Highs all through the wintertime are frequently in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Deschutes River descend into the 10's.
