This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The Lava Island Falls to Mount Bachelor Village section of Deschutes River in Oregon is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming   here. Briefly about the general area: Tumalo State Park is a perfect location to stretch your legs a bit; Lava Island is an interesting thing to see while you're here. If you're dropping by Deschutes River from Bend, you won't be the only one; hiking along the Swampy Lakes Trail is glorious fun. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. Upper Falls Deschutes River is a great local attraction; Pilot Butte State Park is a scenic location any time of year. It's always perfect to have a look at Lava Island Falls.
