The nature scenery of -blank- County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The to confluence with Little North Santiam section of Elkhorn Creek in Oregon is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class III-V section     by American Whitewater. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the to confluence with Little North Santiam section is one of them. The beautiful Central Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. There's camping available near Elkhorn Creek. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not   make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. Briefly about the general area: Put some time aside to spend at Silver King Falls while you're here at Elkhorn Creek. Going to Detroit Lake State Park in close proximity to Elkhorn Creek is a great thing to do, and going for a hike on the Baty Silver King Trail is always a tremendous adventure. This river is so wonderful. There are plenty of folks from Gates here at Elkhorn Creek; nearby you find the Rocky Top Trail which is a great hiking trail.
