If you're coming from La Grande it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill     up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. The beautiful scenery of Oregon and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is   an area with not too many other spots for that. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The Blue Mountains scenery is wonderful. Briefly about the general area: Hilgard Junction State Park is a delightful place any time of year, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Hoodoo Trail. So many entertaining things in the Blue Mountains, just remarkable. Red Bridge State Park is a tremendous place to stretch your legs a bit, and do take a hike on the Park Saddle Trail. This river is so great. A spree to Grande Ronde River wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Sheep Camp Spring.
