The beautiful scenery of Union County and the cool fresh water beats anything. This stretch of Grande Ronde River in Union County is 13 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. If you're coming from La Grande it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. |

This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance
| you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots.

the slopes of Spout Springs are so inviting noone can resist. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. Minam State Recreation Area is worth stopping at if you're at Grande Ronde River. For the duration of the
days of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Grande Ronde River, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. For the period of the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Grande Ronde River are in the 20's.
