CLASS III 11 miles
|
| |
This stretch of Horse Creek in Lane County is 11 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. The wonderful Oregon scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. |
The starting point is not too far from Bend, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This is one of
| a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The beauty of the Central Cascade Range is a great plus for this river. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short | |
|
distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: During your trip to Horse Creek you'll
meet some people from Blue River for sure; there's perfect hiking along the Saddle Trail. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Central Cascade Range. Don't leave Horse Creek without first paying a visit to Foley Hot Springs.
The Frissell Point Trail offers hiking at its best. Horse Creek sees pretty high levels of rain. The wettest month of the year is commonly December, that's the one that rains the most while July is usually the driest month.
