The put-in location is a short drive from Grants Pass, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Oregon you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers |
here are not for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The wild scenery
| of the Coast Ranges is great. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Highway 199 to Miami Bar section is one of them. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. The natural beauty of Oregon and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might | |
|
have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: You'll meet a lot
of people from Selma here; if you have the time, Oregon Caves National Monument is a national park worth taking a look at. All the outdoors amusing things in the Coast Ranges will keep you coming back repeatedly. Take a
hike on the Illinois River Trail; nearby you hit upon splendid spots like Alder Gulch. This is a really good river. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Chetco Divide Trail.
