This stretch of Nehalem River in Columbia County is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Columbia County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. This river system is full of great paddling     sections, the Upper Nehalem to Vernonia section is just one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. The beautiful Coast Ranges scenery is an added bonus. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.
