This stretch of Rock Creek in Douglas County is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Oregon and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Oregon are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not |
safe for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Above Rock Creek
| Fish Hatchery section is one of them. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: Lots of folks
from Idleyld Park come to Rock Creek, and close by you hit upon the Williams Creek Trail which is a great hiking trail. Yeah, come up here to the Central Cascade Range for a great time. You need to stop at Chimney Rock since
you're here at Rock Creek, and the Rock Creek Trail is a good hiking trail nearby. Coming to this river is always a good idea. Rock Creek typically gets a great deal of rainfall.
