Oregon whitewater, Sandy River

Clackamas county, Lolo Pass Road to Marmot Dam section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     13.5 miles
The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Hood River, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Clackamas County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Lolo Pass Road to Marmot Dam section of Sandy River in Oregon is 13.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This is not the
only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section
is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Cascade Range is a great experience. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're
all set. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Oregon are often more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.

Briefly about the general area:
Benson State Park is a great site to stretch your legs a bit, and do take a hike on the Plaza Trail. If you want a good time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Central Cascade Range. Lots of people from Brightwood come to Sandy River, and when you're here it's always fun to take a look at Ainsworth State Park. This river is so wonderful.
