If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. This section of Santiam River - Little North in     Marion County is 6.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Albany-Lebanon, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. The beauty of the Central Cascade Range is a great plus for this river. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There   are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Salmon Falls to Elkhorn Park stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. Briefly about the general area: North Santiam State Park is worth checking out if you're at Santiam River - Little North, and the Crabtree Lake Trail is a perfect hiking trail nearby. These mountains rock, just explore all the exciting stuff to do in the Central Cascade Range. While you're here at Santiam River - Little North you will meet lots of folks from close by Gates, and if the weather is good, you can go for a hike along the Pine Crest Trail.
