The Green Peter Dam to Foster Reservoir stretch of Santiam River - Middle is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class IV section by American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Getting a good workout and just hanging out     with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Green Peter Dam to Foster Reservoir stretch is just one of many. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Albany-Lebanon, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Central Cascade   Range scenery is wonderful. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Briefly about the general area: Go for a hike on the Snow Peak Mill City Trail, and there are plenty of folks from Foster here at Santiam River - Middle. Man, is there a heap of entertaining things to do in the Central Cascade Range. A journey to Cascadia State Park when you're here at Santiam River - Middle is never a bad idea; don't leave Santiam River - Middle without first going for a hike along the Crabtree Lake Trail.
