This stretch of Santiam River - North in Marion/ Linn County is 4.7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V section of whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Oregon you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This     is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. If you're coming from Albany-Lebanon it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. When you're paddling down a Central Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The nearby hotels are a bit away   from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Briefly about the general area: Why not take a refreshing hike along the Volcano Trail; Detroit Lake State Park is a delightful location to stretch your legs a bit. All year is a delightful time in the Central Cascade Range if you like the outdoors. The Rocky Top Trail offers hiking at its best, and if you're dropping by from Gates, you won't be the only one. This river is so perfect. When you're here at Santiam River - North it's always fun to have a look at Detroit Lake State Park.
