Oregon whitewater, Umpqua River

Douglas county, Confluence of North and South Umpqua to Scottsburg section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     84 miles

We are new to the area and have teenage boys who are fairly new to kayaking. We were also thinking of including innertubes with us. Can you please help us find areas that are safe this time of year? Says Heather

Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The beautiful scenery of Douglas County and the cool
fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The wild scenery of the Coast Ranges is great. There's camping available near Umpqua River. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make
reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. The Confluence of North and South Umpqua to Scottsburg stretch of Umpqua River in Oregon is 84 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so it looks like you will be camping out. This river system
has a few good paddling stretches and the Confluence of North and South Umpqua to Scottsburg section is one of them. The starting point is not too far from Roseburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good rivers for that around here.
