The put-in location is a short drive from Eugene-Springfield, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of Douglas County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. The Soda Springs to Deadline Falls stretch of Umpqua River - North is 25.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from |
the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Central Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking
| you might find the rivers here more demanding, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Soda Springs to Deadline Falls stretch is just one of them. Briefly
about the general area: There's fine hiking along the Panther Trail, and Clyde Holliday State Park is a wonderful spot to go. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Central Cascade Range. Don't leave Umpqua River - North
without first going for a hike along the Mott Trail. Winslow Cabin Spring is an inspiring location to take a look at while you're here.
