The North Umpqua is a great river experience. The upper section from Boulder Flat to Susan Creek should be done by experienced people only. Deadline falls is usually unrunable and a real washing machine hazard. Put in at Swiftwater should be done by only experienced at high water. The Narrows are dangerous and a few have drowned here. Colliding waters put in to Whistler take out is about 5 or 6 river miles and a good experience if water |
is high enough (June). For kids and beginners put in at Amacher Park under the 5 Freeway and take out at Hestness or River Forks for a longer and more exciting ride. Many even tube this section. Amacher to Hestness is easy
| enough for kids to tube. Amacher has kids' lifevests to borrow and return. Have a great day on the river! Says Dee Vasser
The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Roseburg, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The wonderful Oregon | |

scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Umpqua River - North attract people from near and far. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a
bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back
for more. This stretch of Umpqua River - North in Oregon is 34.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II(III) section.
