  If you're coming from Roseburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Douglas County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Lawson Bar to Myrtle Ck section is just one of many. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother
    nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This section of Umpqua River - South in Oregon is 9 miles long
and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. No shortage of good hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this  
state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.

Briefly about the general area:
Go for a hike on the Grayback Trail, and if you're popping by from Myrtle Creek, you won't be the only one. That right there is a load of entertaining things already but it goes on, the Coast Ranges has it all. Going for a hike on the South Fork Trail is always a nice adventure. Umpqua River - South is a pretty wet place usually with a lot of precipitation. Of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is July.
