The beautiful scenery of Luzerne County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Pennsylvania is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. No need to look hard for hotels,     and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're coming from Scranton—Wilkes-Barre it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this   river system, there are a few others too. Briefly about the general area: Going to Lehigh Gorge State Park in the vicinity of Bear Creek is a glorious thing to do; the Choke Creek Trail is a great hiking trail nearby. A spree to Hickory Run State Park when you're here at Bear Creek is never a bad idea, and people from White Haven love to come here. This is such a wonderful river. There is a great hiking trail next to Bear Creek called the Refuge Trail; Jack Frost is a great local ski area. An average amount of precipitation falls at Bear Creek. July is the month that gets the most rain; the driest month of the year is January.
