  The Pennsylvania 340 to Mortonville section of Brandywine Creek - West Branch in Chester County is 6.6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. The natural beauty of Chester County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Reading it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. There are so many
    stretches to paddle in this river system, the Pennsylvania 340 to Mortonville stretch is just one of many. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Pennsylvania you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable,
so keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because  
these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds here at Brandywine Creek - West Branch are pretty good.
