Also the ''out'' spot the road is very far from where you can pull your truck in and make sure you have 4 wheel drive. The hill going down into this out spot is steep and rocky. Also at the bottom of hill it is private property! Not a great run this time! Says Kelly If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Pennsylvania     you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. The beautiful scenery of Venango County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The Van to Allegheny River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. There's camping available near East Sandy Creek. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Oil City, there's a road   map further down the page with more info on that. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: You'll meet a lot of people from Cranberry here; a trip to Oil Creek State Park revitalizes the spirit. East Sandy Creek gets much water. The wettest month of the year is regularly July, that's the one that rains the most, and February is the month with the least moisture. All through the long summer days, highs typically are in the 80's at East Sandy Creek; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
