Pennsylvania whitewater, Hornbeck's Creek

Pike county, Emery's Road to Route 209 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V+     1.8 miles

A beginner doesn't belong any where's near hornbecks .... This river class V creek is the real deal with 20 to 40  runable falls and more than 250' ft per mile of gradient ... The words beginner doesn't belong in any entry about Hornbecks, or Raymondskill creeks ... IMHO Says Andrew

The starting location is a reasonable drive from East Stroudsburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch of Hornbeck's
Creek in Pike County is 1.8 miles long and is a class IV-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Pike County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. No matter
if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The Emery's Road to Route 209 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Pennsylvania are often easier than in other states, so better not forget that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes.

Briefly about the general area:
Going for a hike on the Bald Barren Trail is always a fine adventure, and you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Shawnee Mountain since you're here. Don't leave Hornbeck's Creek without going to Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and close by you discover the Flat Ridge Trail which is a great hiking trail.
