The put-in location is a short drive from Pittsburgh, as you can see on the road map further down. The Chaintown to Youghiogheny River section of Jacobs Creek in Westmoreland/Fayette County is 7.1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better     reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Pennsylvania you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Chaintown to Youghiogheny   River section is one of them. Briefly about the general area: Creek Falls is a good local attraction, and the Mile Trail offers hiking at its best. Here at Jacobs Creek you'll perhaps meet some people from Smithton; since you're here why not visit Morrow Hollow. This is such a wonderful river. Jacobs Creek is a good place of normal rainfall. Throughout July this area sees the most rain while February is typically the driest month. High temperatures at Jacobs Creek through the summer are in the 80's, and the overnight is fairly colder of course, generally in the 60's. Highs all through the winter are commonly in the 30's, and overnight lows at Jacobs Creek through the wintertime mostly dip into the 10's.
