  The starting location is a reasonable drive from East Stroudsburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of Pike County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the
    rivers in this state are not very demanding. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon
trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Above Delaware confluence stretch is one of them. The Above Delaware confluence stretch of Lackawaxen River in Pike County is 5 miles long and is  
according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Tanglwood. While you're here at Lackawaxen River you can take a hike along the Steam Mill Trail, and Lake Superior State Park is a splendid place to explore on a lovely day. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. On a nice day at Lackawaxen River you can take a hike along the Crawford Trail, and there are plenty of folks from Rowland here at Lackawaxen River. Visiting Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River is just something you need to do if you haven't yet.
