Pennsylvania whitewater, Little Conemaugh River Cambria county, South Fork to Johnstown section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II     10.2 miles   Do not run this entire stretch of river. There is a huge hazard just downstream from Mineral Point. The guy that posted that he nearly died is very lucky he did not. I am surprised he made it, quite honestly. The stretch down to Mineral Point is Class III-III+ whitewater. Says Clark Fisher There is a dangerous section when the elevation drops, and the river turns wicked.  This is the ECHO/PARKHILL section of the river.  When you see     a huge green bridge, you are coming near to the drop.  Be careful of the hydraulics, this is a dangerous section, but can be navigated with some foresight.  Says MaidenAmerica Very dangerous river. Not recommended for beginners. Says John Ran this river for the first time today thinking it would be a gentle paddle. WARNING. It is NOT class II. There are many boulders and ledges. Swift current in high water. Hazardous thirty-foot waterfall right after a sharp bend to the left...with no warning. I banged my kayak up really bad taking the fall and nearly died. BE CAUTIOUS. The put-in location is a short drive from Johnstown, if you're not familiar   with the area there's a road map further down the page. The average Pennsylvania whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. No need to look hard for hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.
