Pennsylvania whitewater, Octoraro Creek

Chester county, Octoraro Lake to New Bridge Rd Maryland section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I     15 miles

Not at all deep, wide and shallow, nice parking but if you get to the very end where Octoraro Creek meets the Susquehanna it can get pretty nasty. Good place to train beginers but if they go out too far you may never see them again. Somedays the current at the mouth gets to be too much unless you have a rider picking you up downstream a couple miles. Says Chesapeake

The wonderful Pennsylvania scenery and the cool fresh water have
people coming here. The Octoraro Lake to New Bridge Rd Maryland section of Octoraro Creek is 15 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I section. The average Pennsylvania whitewater rafting
or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so better not forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too. There are a few other sections in this
river system that can be paddled as well. The starting point is not too far from Lancaster, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There's camping available near Octoraro Creek. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came.

Briefly about the general area:
You beyond doubt should go to Susquehanna State Park since you're here at Octoraro Creek; one of the best things about this location is its proximity to Roachs Shore.
