The beautiful scenery of Pennsylvania and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Johnstown it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. No need to look hard for hotels, but if     you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the SR 56 to Stonycreek River section is one of them. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general   area: The great people of Stoystown like to hang out close by, and there is a splendid hiking trail close by called the John P Saylor Trail. The Lost Turkey Trail is a delightful hiking trail close to Paint Creek. For the duration of the months of summer at Paint Creek highs are commonly in the 70's while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's with temperatures at Paint Creek dipping down into the 10's during winter nights.
